Diamond Jubilee Street Party

In sharp contrast to the sunshine we had for 2011’s Royal Wedding Street Party, this year’s party took place on a dull, cold, rainy day.  Undeterred by the weather conditions, Meldreth turned out in force, donning their wellies and erecting umbrellas and gazebos to keep out the worst of the weather.

If you were at the street party, please add your comments by using the link at the bottom of the page.

The Queen (aka Pat Tobin) graced us with her presence and many people got into the spirit by dressing up in historic or patriotic costumes.  Prizes for the best costume were awarded to Libby Holmes in the children’s category and to Ruth Mills and David Smith in the adult’s section.  Flora and Alice McCaig’s dog, Johnny won the most patriotic pet competition.  The prize for the best decorated gazebo and table went to the Elbourn family.

At the British Queen, several marquees provided shelter as well as refreshments and a small steam train took children around the grounds.

The photographs above were taken by Malcolm Woods and Tim Gane.
