Meldreth War Memorial

Meldreth War Memorial is situated at the intersection of the High Street, Station Road and Whitecroft Road.  There are twelve men listed for the First World War and seven for the Second World War.

First World War

Private Ernest Abrey

Killed in action on Thursday, 6th May 1915 in Belgium

Company Sergeant Major Sidney Spot Chamberlain

Killed in action on Thursday, 25th October 1917 in Belgium, aged 31

Private Reuben Dash

Killed in action on Saturday, 1st July 1916 in France

Private Jabez East

Killed in action on Tuesday, 31st July 1917 in Belgium, aged 24

Captain Ralph Farnham

Died of wounds on Thursday, 31st October 1918 in Belgium, aged 30

Bombardier Nelson Fielding

Died Tuesday, 2nd March 1915 in France, aged 19

Private Harry Flack

Killed in action Tuesday, 26th March 1918 in France

Private John William Fuller

Killed in action on Thursday,14th September 1916 in France, aged 32

Private Wilfred Harrup

Killed in action on Thursday, 26th October 1916 in France, aged 20

Private Albert Negus

Killed in action on Saturday, 24th April 1915 in Belgium

Private Ernest Pepper

Died on Monday, 7th February 1916 in Egypt

Private Samuel Mark Pepper

Died in 1916 in France.

Lieutenant James Raymond Howard

Died on Thursday, 16th September 1943 in Italy, aged 24. See also our page on James Raymond Howard who had been a pupil at Meldreth School.

Sergeant Joseph J Kelly

Died on Sunday, 9th July 1944 in France, aged 28

Corporal George Clement Russell Pizzey, Royal Air Force

Died on Tuesday, 30th October 1945, aged 34

Corporal Pizzey was buried on 3rd November 1945 in grave no. 97 in Fenny Lane Cemetery, Meldreth.

Corporal Reginald W Pluck, Army Dental Corps

Died on Saturday, 13th October 1945 in Belgium, aged 28

Private Bert Richard Elijah Radford

Died on Thursday, 2nd November 1944 in the Netherlands, aged 34

Lance Corporal Albert Kitchener Walbey

Died on Tuesday, 29th May 1945 in Bangladesh, aged 28.  See also our page on Albert Kitchener Walbey who had been a pupil at Meldreth School.

Trooper Arthur Yuill

Died on Tuesday, 19th January 1943 in Tunisia, aged 28
