William, Keziah, Samuel and Joseph Payne

William PAYNE, son of William PAYNE and Sarah WALLER, was born in 1782 in Meldreth.  He was christened on 26th April 1789 in Holy Trinity Church. He married Elizabeth Ann MUNCEY on 6th February 1812 in St Peter and Paul Church, Bassingbourn.  His occupation was a beer retailer at the Cherry Tree Inn, Kneesworth. He died on 28th May 1849 in Kneesworth and was buried on 2nd June 1849 in St Peter and Paul Church, Bassingbourn.

Elizabeth and William PAYNE had the following children all born in Kneesworth:

James PAYNE (1815-1891)
John PAYNE (1817-1889)
Elizabeth PAYNE (1822-1899)
William PAYNE (1824- )

Keziah PAYNE, daughter of William PAYNE and Sarah WALLER, was born in 1783 in Meldreth. She was christened on 26th April 1789 in Holy Trinity Church, Meldreth. She married James BEARD on 20th April 1807 in All Saints Church, Melbourn. They lived all their lives in Bassingbourn and she died on 21st July 1860 in Bassingbourn and was buried on 23rd July 1860 in St Peter and Paul Church, Bassingbourn.

Samuel PAYNE, son of William PAYNE and Sarah WALLER, was born in 1789 in Meldreth.  He was christened on 26th April 1789 in Holy Trinity Church. He married Peggy Squire PIGGOT on 13th October 1812 in St Mary the Virgin Church, Ashwell, Hertfordshire. He moved to Arrington around 1817 where he lived all his life until he died on 21st September 1861 in Arrington. He was buried on 25th September 1861 in St Nicholas Church, Arrington.

Peggy Squire and Samuel PAYNE had the following children:
Samuel PAYNE (1813-1848)
Joseph PAYNE (1815-1825) Christened at Holy Trinity Church 17th September 1815
William PAYNE (1818-1867)
Ann PAYNE (1821-1905)

Joseph PAYNE, son of William PAYNE and Sarah WALLER, was born in 1795 in Meldreth. He was christened on 8th November 1795 in Holy Trinity Church. He married Edith Sell WILLIAMS on 14th November 1816 in St Peter and Paul Church, Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire. He moved to Little Shelford sometime around 1817 where he lived all his life until he died on 7th September 1872. He was buried on 10th September 1872 in All Saints Church, Little Shelford, Cambridgeshire.

Edith and Joseph PAYNE had the following children:

  • I am not sure if my ancestral connection to people in Meldreth will be of interest but, having been invited to speak at Holy Trinity Church in July 2014, I checked the church website and found a link to this site where I found reference to some very distant maternal relatives – the Pepper, Payne and Waller families. Kezia b.1782 is my GGGG Grandmother. My GG Grandmother Mary Jane C Payne b.1849 in Shepreth, married my GG Grandfather George Ingrey, from Melbourn, in Sept. 1869.  I can trace the Payne family back to William Payne, who married Sarah Waller on 13th Oct. 1784 in Meldreth.
