Community Events in Melwood: 'In Tune With Nature'

It was a perfect, balmy summer’s evening in July 2005 that the Melwood Conservation Group held a free music and poetry event in Mel Meadow in the centre of the wood. All and everyone were invited to come along with their rugs and picnic baskets to enjoy the woodland in high summer and be entertained to music and poems performed by various members of the village. Around 40 responded to the invitation and all agreed it had been a most pleasant evening.

Musical contributions were given by Elizabeth Bell (singer), Alex Leigh (oboe) and Antoinette Cann (piano). Margaret Hunter and Clare Crossman gave poetry readings.

The Conservation Group provided a drum barbecue for the use of the picnickers to cook their own food which proved to be very popular and the Group also provided seasonal strawberries and cream. Meldreth Village Association provided gazebos in case the weather was inclement, but fortunately they were not needed.
