Albert Kitchener Walbey, the son of Mary Ann and Charles Walbey, lived near Station Hill in Meldreth. He was born in 1915 and attended Meldreth School from 1920 until 1929. In 1925 he was pictured in the school’s Rugby Team.
Below, are extracts from the school admissions register showing Albert’s details.
During the war he served as Lance Corporal 7938897 of the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. He died on 29th May 1945 and is buried in Maynamati War Cemetery, Bangladesh.
Albert, together with fellow former Meldreth School pupil James Raymond Howard, is commemorated on Meldreth war memorial.
